Evidence-Based Residential Care

Addiction Treatment in NJ Built Around You, Not a One-Size-Fits-All Protocol

If you are searching for addiction treatment programs in South Jersey, Maplewood Treatment Solutions offers something rare: a residential facility where both levels of care operate under one roof. Whether you are entering treatment for a primary substance use disorder or managing addiction alongside a co-occurring mental health condition, you receive the right level of care without transferring facilities, rebuilding trust with a new team, or starting over.

Our facility sits in Merchantville, NJ, and serves adults from across Camden County, Burlington County, Gloucester County, and the greater Philadelphia area. We accept most major insurance plans and complete benefits verification at no cost, typically within a few hours of your first call.

Recovery does not follow a fixed timeline. Our clinical team bases every decision, including length of stay, level of care, and discharge planning, on your individual progress rather than a predetermined schedule.

“We built our program around the patient, not the paperwork. Every person who walks through our doors deserves a treatment plan that actually fits their life.”

Our Residential Programs

Two Levels of Care. One Facility. One Seamless Path Forward.

Both levels of care operate out of our Merchantville, NJ location and are staffed around the clock by licensed clinicians. Your level of care is determined by your clinical needs, and transitions between phases happen within the same facility so your recovery never hits an unnecessary pause.

Inpatient Residential Treatment

Primary Substance Use Disorder

Our Inpatient Residential Treatment program serves adults with primary substance use disorders who require structured, 24/7 clinical care in a residential setting. Under our Department of Health license for Residential Treatment Care, this level of care includes two distinct phases that allow us to match the intensity of support to each patient’s clinical needs at the time of admission.

Phase 1: Inpatient Residential Stabilization

Designed for higher acuity patients and those entering treatment following a moderate relapse or without completion of a formal detox program. The primary focus of this phase is continued medical monitoring in a residential setting. Patients receive 24/7 clinical oversight, medication management, psychiatric evaluation, and individualized treatment planning while their condition stabilizes. This phase is not a detox program. It is a medically attentive residential environment built for patients who need closer monitoring before transitioning to standard residential care.

Phase 2: Inpatient Residential Treatment

For patients who have already completed detox, have approximately one to two weeks of sobriety, or who have stabilized and are clinically ready for the full residential curriculum. This phase delivers structured individual therapy, daily group sessions, evidence-based modalities including CBT, DBT, and MAT, and a personalized aftercare plan built before discharge.

Co-Occurring Residential Treatment

Dual Diagnosis

Our Co-Occurring Residential Treatment program serves adults managing both a substance use disorder and a co-occurring mental health condition. If you are dealing with addiction alongside depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, or another psychiatric condition, this level of care treats both simultaneously, in the same facility, with the same clinical team.

Treating each condition separately, or leaving the mental health component unaddressed during residential treatment, significantly increases the risk of relapse. Our clinicians hold dual licensure in both substance use disorders and mental health, which allows for a fully integrated treatment approach that most residential programs cannot offer.

Our Clinical Method

Proven Therapies. Individualized Plans. No Generic Protocols.

Every treatment program at Maplewood begins with a comprehensive clinical assessment. That assessment drives a fully individualized treatment plan built around your substance use history, mental health background, and recovery goals. The following evidence-based modalities run throughout all residential programs:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Identifies and reshapes the thought patterns driving addictive behavior. CBT is one of the most extensively researched and effective modalities in substance use disorder treatment.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Builds emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Particularly effective for patients managing co-occurring mental health conditions alongside addiction.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

FDA-approved medications combined with counseling and behavioral therapies. MAT reduces cravings, prevents relapse, and improves long-term treatment outcomes for opioid and alcohol use disorders.

Trauma-Informed Care

Recognizes and addresses the connection between past trauma and substance use. Our clinical team creates a safe, non-retraumatizing environment as a foundation for all therapeutic work.

Group Therapy

Structured peer group sessions build community, reduce isolation, and develop the interpersonal skills that support long-term sobriety. Groups run daily throughout both residential levels of care.

Aftercare Planning

Discharge planning begins from the moment you arrive. By the time you leave, you have a full step-down plan including outpatient referrals, support groups, housing, and community resources.

Frequently Asked Questions

Real Answers to the Questions Families Ask Before They Call

These are the questions we hear most often from individuals and families considering residential treatment at Maplewood. If your question is not here, call us directly at (856) 485-9814. We answer every call personally.

What addiction treatment programs does Maplewood offer in South Jersey?

Maplewood Treatment Solutions offers two levels of residential care at our Merchantville, NJ facility: Inpatient Residential Treatment for adults with primary substance use disorders, and Co-Occurring Residential Treatment for adults managing both a substance use disorder and a co-occurring mental health condition. Within our Inpatient Residential Treatment program, we offer two clinical phases, Inpatient Residential Stabilization and standard Inpatient Residential Treatment, to match the level of medical monitoring to each patient’s needs at admission. All care is provided at 214 W Maple Ave, Merchantville, NJ 08109, and we serve patients from across New Jersey and the greater Philadelphia area. We also accept patients traveling from out of state who are looking to relocate to gain some time away from their home environment.

What is the difference between Inpatient Residential Stabilization and Inpatient Residential Treatment?

Both are phases within our Inpatient Residential Treatment level of care, licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health. Inpatient Residential Stabilization is for higher acuity patients and those entering treatment following a moderate relapse or without a completed formal detox. The primary focus of this phase is continued medical monitoring in a residential setting, including 24/7 clinical oversight, medication management, and psychiatric evaluation. It is not a detox program. Inpatient Residential Treatment is for patients who have already completed detox, have approximately one to two weeks of sobriety, or have stabilized clinically. This phase delivers the full residential curriculum including individual therapy, daily group sessions, and evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, and MAT. Patients who enter through the stabilization phase transition directly into residential treatment within the same facility.

Do you treat co-occurring mental health conditions alongside addiction?

Yes. Our co-occurring residential program provides integrated dual diagnosis treatment for adults managing both substance use disorder and a mental health condition such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, or bipolar disorder. We treat both conditions simultaneously rather than sequentially, which research consistently shows produces better long-term outcomes. Our clinicians hold dual licensure in both substance use and mental health.

Does insurance cover residential addiction treatment in New Jersey?

Most major insurance plans cover inpatient addiction treatment programs. Under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA), insurers must cover substance use disorder treatment on equal terms with other medical conditions. Maplewood verifies your benefits at no cost before admission, typically within a few hours. Call (856) 485-9814 to get started — there is no obligation.

How long does residential treatment at Maplewood typically last?

Length of stay depends on individual clinical needs and insurance authorization. Most residential stays range from 10 to 45 days, though some patients have shorter stays based on medical necessity. Our clinical team advocates directly with your insurance carrier for the appropriate length of stay based on your progress, and discharge planning begins from day one so that you leave with a complete step-down plan in place.

Where is Maplewood Treatment Solutions located and who do you serve?

Our facility is located at 214 W Maple Ave, Merchantville, NJ 08109 in Camden County, South Jersey. We primarily serve adults from Cherry Hill, Camden, Voorhees, Mount Laurel, Marlton, Haddonfield, Gloucester County, Burlington County, and the greater Philadelphia area. We also accept patients traveling from out of state. Call (856) 485-9814 for directions, admissions information, or to find out whether treatment away from home might be the right choice for your situation.

Can family members be involved in the treatment process?

Family involvement is encouraged where clinically appropriate. Addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions affect the entire family system, and education for loved ones plays an important role in long-term recovery. Our clinical team discusses family programming options during the admissions and treatment planning process and adjusts involvement based on what will best support the individual in treatment.

What happens when residential treatment ends?

Discharge planning begins from the moment you arrive. By the time residential treatment ends, your clinical team will have arranged a complete step-down plan that may include partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), outpatient therapy, psychiatric follow-up, medication management, peer support, sober housing referrals, and community resources. Our case managers also assist patients returning to their home state with everything they need set up before they leave.
